Yes! I am a Hellenist through and through. I am completely obsessed with Greek culture. I want to know absolutely everything to do with them. I think it is because when I was growing up all my best friends happened to be Greek, even my next door neighbour was a Greek.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by valid POV. Anyway, don't know why that film continues to bother me, but it does. I've seen so many classic films in the past year, and I just cannot appreciate why this particular film has such a fan base which I must acknowledge, it does.

His decision to do so only resulted from his frustration at not finding any inspiration to write something that was consistent with the original work. That makes what he did a cop out in my book. Also, even in this particular work, couldn't he have created characters whose actions could have at least been symbolically consistent with whatever themes were present in the originial work?

You don't get to essentially rewrite the book and remove any sense of an essence of the book's themes in order to fit a screenplay modality. What was done here changed EVERYTHING. You Adaptation suck-ups must all be frustrated writers who lack the creative genious to make your challenges work. You know what? Look to any old MGM film that served as an Adaptation of a classic book. They always seemed to capture the essence of the book and often brought it in 90 minutes or less!
