It all comes down to interpretation and representation. For example, small children are told that a stork brings babies home. This is because adults think that children could not yet understand the sexual act.
Likewise, religious leaders have depicted God an angels in human figure because they believe that non-physical beings are beyond the masses understanding.
We can only experience the physical world through our physical senses, but the spiritual world can only be experienced through the spirit. Those who wrote the ancient books, which today are part of the Bible, as well as those left out, told us about that infinite consciousness based on how they experienced it through the spirit.
All the information our brain needs to understand the physical world is collected through the eyes, ears, nose, ect. But feelings like love, hate, selfishness or altruism are born from within. Jesus made this clear when he said that is not what enters the body what makes us unclean (sin), but those feelings born inside us, like hate and selfishness that makes us unclean (sin)
For example, for our brain to understand a object like a tv, car, tree, ect, we have to see it, touch it and hear it. Then, the information collected will enter though our sensorial organs and will travel through our nervous system all the way to the brain neurons were that information would be translated from electromagnetic impulses to images, sounds, smells, ect.
However, experiences (information) like love, selfishness, hate, ect are born somewhere inside us and then they will travel to the brain. But the brain dont have an image, sound or smell to relate with those experiences. That is why, for example, people will use a heart to represent love in the physical world.
I believe that the ability to understand the spiritual world is something not everybody can do, especially very mathematical minds that need images, sounds, smell, and touch to understand. Atheists think that the only way to understand is through the collection and analysis of physical data.
Its written in the Bible, but atheist can see it. It tell us that humans started to deviate from the spiritual understanding (God) at the moment they started to understand the physical.
If there is a junction of Science and God (spirit), it has to be through unifying physical and spiritual understanding.
