This was skated a mite slower than I've seen them do it all season long. It did seem like they were "pushing it" in the final minute, and they looked really, really tired at the end. Still, it's a gold medal winning program and I think it will be a very close competition in Nice.

@uncchristine99 I agree; as much as I adore them, I think they have a tendency to put all their biggest tricks too close to the end of their programs. As for the deduction, I don't think it's been for the same thing every time. Here she almost loses her balance at 3:43, but recovers very quickly....

4:32 gets me every time. Can you believe that it's been 20 years since Johnny signed off? That entire last week of shows was magical. Time has shown that he was the master of late night... no peers, IMO.

An uncle of mine, also a composer and friend of Mancini's, said he was never without a tune in his head. Always had a notebook or grabbed the back of a receipt or a napkin to jot down whatever was coming to him at the time.

Very clever, imaginative and witty episode, and that gorgeous cinematography... I think you could enjoy it even if you didn't know all the noir films it references. Had this on VHS for years. I just hate the term "easy listening." It seems like it's always meant as a put-down. Henry Mancini's melodies are beautiful listening, in my book. He was gifted at capturing a mood, an emotion, a feeling.

Well, we've all been there, haven't we? Dreamy and bittersweet but ending with that grace note of hope -- "the future may still give you a chance..." -- just perfection. Making it a waltz and having Andy Hamilton improvise that sax solo was truly inspired.
