About this user

Hi there. Welcome to my home page. What started out as a project; a mission, if you like, to update old photographs of the railways in my local area has ended up with me joining You Tube. The project, only part way through, is now an obsessional monster; a runaway train!! I love railways and archeology. In a way the two have come together here and I find it fascinating finding out how things used to be compared to how things are now.

Another of my interests is my artwork. On and off I have painted landscapes using watercolours. All that may now have changed!! Last Christmas my brother bought me a book of paintings by Terence Cuneo. As someone else had bought me a set of acrylic paints I thought that I'd put the two together and have a go. I do not expect for one minute to be as good as the late, great Mr. Cuneo but I would like to create pictures of merit. We'll see. I may display them here from time to time.

As well as having a passion for steam engines (especially anything LMS and of Stanier design) I also like British diesels and electrics. My favourite engines being classes 08s, 20s, 37s, 40s, 47s, 25s, 33s, 56s, 86s and 87s. The first diesel that I saw was a class 40 as, when I was younger, I saw a BR green D numbered CO1-CO1 locomotive (as they were then known) on the loop line where I live. The line had closed in 1968. I heard a klaxon and saw the diesel stop in front of me before uncoupling from the wagons it was hauling and carry on down the line. It was found to be derailed the next day. I think this incident is what got me interested in railways and trains. That and the 3 rail Hornby Dublo set and a couple of Observer books on trains that had been given to my brothers from a neighbour. I still have the books.
