I'm a member of the League City Volunteer Fire Dept. LCVFD has put together a training academy that involves physical fitness, classroom, and field training. The academy takes about 3 months and prepares us for the dangers involved with firefighting.

On the first day of the academy we where all asked a question "Why do you want to be a firefighter? ". Answers varied from person to person. We all know why we started this academy. But, Now I ask the question. Why do we stay? Through the time we have spent in class, studying at home, the pain of PT, and the bruises from the drills. Knowing we have to do it all again in just a few more days. So why do I say?

I stay because now it is a challenge. Now I have pushed myself to the breaking point and when I felt that I couldn't give anymore. The instructors push me that much more. At one point and time my breaking point was a limit of my physical and mental endurance. Now I view it as an obstacle that I look forward to breaking.

Thank you to all the instructors that take the time to train us and smile while we sweat. Thank you for helping us in the quest of becoming a firefighter. From classroom instruction, physical training, skills practice, hell house (maze is the nice way of saying it), and sharing personal experiences that can only be learn with years of experiences.

Thank you to all my fellow cadets that make me better myself and they are there for me when I fail. I could not ask for a better group of people to have by my side.
