Israel doesn't deny the Palestinian Nakba. Israel says that it was brought about by the Arabs rejecting the UN partition plan. Then the various attempts to 'wipe Israel off the map' which forced Israel to become the economic and military powerhouse that it is today.

Now, tragically, huge reserves of gas have been discovered offshore Israel. Still. Good chances that the second Palestinian state emerging in Gaza will have its own offshore oil and gas reserves.

Sadly, the third Palestinian state on the West bank has no Mediterranean shoreline.

Jews lived relatively comfortably under Muslim domination for hundreds of years BUT, there was never any expression of Jewish nationalism. That doesn't mean that there were no slaughter of Jews, just that they were few and far between. Various Arab leaders through out the centuries have valued the advice of their Jewish subjects.

Now, today, we have a Western Liberal Democratic Israel and Muslims cannot tolerate this. It is a final slap in the face for their continuing downward spiral from enlightenment into ignorance and poverty. The ignorance and poverty is self inflicted. Not colonialism. Not Zionism. Not Communism. Not Maoism.

It is a direct result of their belief system which is quite closed to change and is now being interpreted in such a way as to make Muslims unwanted 'guests' in Western or European countries.

The West can change and does change. It is not founded on dogma. Quite the opposite in fact. It is constantly examining itself to make it more enjoyable for its citizens. It has taken the word 'Liberal' to new heights while the very idea of 'liberalism' enrages religious Muslims who drag along their less religious co-believers with them.

The antisemitism expressed by Muslims is part of their anti Zionism. It has been reinforced purposely to try to delegitimize the modern wonder of the Democratic Israeli state.

The comparison between Israeli actions in Gaza and the Holocaust has only ceased surprising me because it is now so common.

It is, nevertheless, shameful.

The Nazis were attempting to exterminate all Jews. They established death camps to achieve their objectives, gassing men women and children simply to be rid of them. However strongly someone may dislike Israeli policy in Gaza, however cruel or unpleasant they may feel it is, the comparison with the Nazis is not a good one.

And if the critics wish to make the argument that Jews are oppressing others as they were once oppressed, they need not make reference to the Nazis. There are plenty of other examples of Jews being oppressed.

Why not call it a pogrom? Or argue that the Jews are behaving just like the Arabs behaved to them in the first half of the century. I would reject this comparison too, but I am intrigued that it is never used.

I conclude therefore, that my critics are not seraching for an appropriate analogy.

There are only two things a nation can always depend on, good or bad: its people and its history.
Except, of course, in the case of Israel.
No other country has devoted its entire history to defending against its enemies and, even more absurdly, asserting its very right to exist. For such an otherwise tiny nation - a democracy with little in the way of natural or strategic resources - Israel has surely received a disproportionate share of global condemnation.
Just imagine if France, England or Iceland or, heaven forbid, rogue nations like Syria and Iran, had spent its entire existence justifying its nationhood. No respites or shifts in sympathy - nothing but global denunciations around the clock.
With Israel the situation is actually even worse. The Jewish state has repeatedly been denied its history - as brief as these past 60 years have been. Israel's back-story is instantaneously forgotten as soon as the events take place. Whenever the rest of the world judges Israel, which is quite often, the factual record of the middle east is deemed irrelevant to the present moment. A new line gets drawn and past history is erased.
Nothing that happens to Israel can serve as justification for what it must to do in response. What every other nation would legitimately regard as its sovereign right and duty if ever placed in the same situation is routinely denied to the Jewish state. The three wars initiated against it, the threats of annihilation from its neighbors, the suicide bombers that have invaded its buses, pizza shops and Passover Seders, the kidnapping and mutilation of its soldiers and, most recently, the rocket attacks launched by Hamas during a purported cease-fire all totally vanish like a Middle Eastern mirage, as if these murderous events never happened.
The twisted absurdity of this dilemma - the whitewashing of Palestinian crimes in order to cast Israel as the aggressor and undermine its moral authority - is that Israel lives in a perpetual state of Groundhog Day. Each day begins anew, disconnected from the day before, and yet bizarrely repeated. Israel stands isolated, its actions unprovoked and without context.
