Such a lovely voice... if only she could let it out without restraint. The vocal performance is far too contained, too precious, it doesn't even begin to convey the desperation and intensity of the lyrics.

I've heard and seen a lot of versions of this tune, but this one far and away feels the best to me. His voice is unbelievably smooth here, the phrasing is gorgeous. Thanks Neil, for everything you've done.

Sheee-IT, I've never heard this version. The one I know is United Soul Association, this one sounds like the same players but this version is slower and pitched down, and has lead vox and piano.

Groove is limp, bassline is weak, drumming is smooth jazz. The whole thing screams "I AM WHITE."

Hmmm... 'pure funk' sounds an awful lot like smooth jazz to me. If you like this sound, more power to ya, but this has nothin' to do with the nasty greasy funk that ruled the scene from '68-'75.
