LOL. Good times. I wrote this game when I was 17, in England. I remember building a rudimentary A/D converter and feeding the output directly into the back of the C64's bus to implement sampling for the speech component of the game.

The reason the kayak sinks, is that the idea was that the kayak would be weakest on its side and would rupture the hull, a head-on collision with the bank hits the strongest part of the canoe so it does not sink.
