Meaning
O God may there be peace in the sky and in the space

If God is everywhere & all pervading then why temples & idols? If we can do mathematics mentally then why the need of pen, pencil paper or calculator? If a person could walk on 2 legs then why the need of crutches or stick? Even in management courses instruction is by way of graphs, charts, videos, slide shows etc.
We need all these pictures, idols, illustrations, examples to understand the concept better due to our intellectual inability. If our mind is subtle enough to understand this concept directly we do not need idols. If everybody understood that God is in everything and everybody then would they really hate or cheat or kill others

It is very easy to say that God is all-pervading and formless, but are we really able to meditate on that formless Reality? Are we able to experience that Truth? If Yes then you do not need a temple or idol or picture. But most of us however still need the support of an idol/picture/temple to prepare the mind, to make it subtle, pure and capable of seeing the highest truth. Since we cannot yet see the Lord in everything, we first practice seeing Him in at least one image (idol/picture) and then slowly expand our vision.
SECOND REASON, a person keeps a picture (hair) of a family or loved one in his wallet or office desk, not because they will forget their loved ones, but because it invokes memories, Love, joy associated for the loved one. Similarly with the idol/picture of God.
This picture or idol (hair) may be of particular importance to this one particular person only. It may not hold the same type of personal importance to another.
why Milk, honey, oil, youhurt etc. is poured on the idols.
Well this process is called "abhishekam". If you notice these idols are CENTURIES old. Our own house hardly lasts for approx. 100 years average, then what makes these idols last for ever and ever?? Ever wondered? Well, it is this "abhishekam". They are actually PRESERVATIVES which make these idols last for ever and ever. Many of these idols are so very ancient that no one can even trace its date of origin.
