TEDx seems like PR at best. That overwhelmingly corrupted and incompetent government is all of a sudden going to do something in the positive direction? Unlikely.
If they wanted to make a real change that is simple, they can first take the allah akbar off the flag. Iraq is not an Islamist country (may not it is, but it wasn't before). In fact, it defeated the greatest jihad since the 7th century, courtesy of Khomeini. It was only put on the flag to shut up the Khomeini-worshipping fanatics following the US and Co. invasion in 91. Now it is time to remove it.

At least the oil industry was not privatized (and then eaten up) by the invaders, and the failure of the invaders to occupy the country forced their unconditional withdrawal from the country by the end of this year as was originally signed in 2008. Still, these things are a drop of fresh water in a salt water ocean of dystopia, especially considering the govt. is really bad (and the ruling party was a terrorist group during the Iran-Iraq War hahah) and extremely corrupt, and doesn't do so much. These past 20 years just so Uncle Sam can destroy a burgeoning country in the Mideast that wasn't under the American boot and alleviate Israeli fears. Gotta love politics /sarcasm.

I am neither. Long ago, I was a bit, but I mostly stopped caring about politics. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but I think it will take Iraq 20 years to get back where it was 20 years ago, and this is without taking into account the much larger population.

I don't know how you people lived the past 20 years. If I were living in Iraq, just looking at the statistics of the death of the economy and everything else considered in a highly developing nation the past 20 years would be enough to drive me mad, nevermind the terrible death and destruction.
