History Pehind Parodius: Introduction

Few years ago, I had played a lot of Konami's Parodius-games. For those unheard, these are a tongue-in-cheek parody of Gradius-series, and sometimes it does even parody other SHMUPS of Golden Videogaming Age and Konami's other game series as well, including quest characters from them with their own exported weaponry.

At first I didn't get the massive loads of references and mockery in these games due not having done any Gradius before (and much more), but after watching this one channel in Youtube that has a lot of Konami's JPN-only games, I discovered that Parodius contained these parodies and shout outs that ranged to the other Konami-games, mainly their SHMUPs (like Nemesis-series for MSX, Xexex, Axelay, Thunder Cross, etc) and also SHMUPs from the 80's + 90s, such as R-Type, Darius, Raiden and so forth. And then there's Jikkyo Oshaberi Parodius with it's own wacky theme on exploring and poking fun at other Konami's prominent series in that era (90s).

And that's not even all, much like I said above, even the weapon sets are borrowed from other game's of Konami, and from some 3rd party shooters.
So I thought I'd cover them up for those who didn't or couldn't get jokes along the series. This might not be helped by Parodius being Japan-only, but I have home-only emulation as my right-hand man for the task.

So this made me get inspired on starting reference-coverring videos similar to CrappyCaptureDevice's "History Behind Smash Bros"-videos, titled History Pehind Parodius. (With upcoming parodying tone on any educating and history-coverring videos)

My goal with this project is to cover most of the history behind:

- Characters. (I'll explain their weapon sets, and sometimes their cosmetic things, etc. I've looked through all the weapons' origins on every character of this series.)

-Stages. (Including elements of it, cosmetic stuff of it, and so on. Depending how much elements it has, the most largest project I can do. There's the references and shoutouts to take an account into, but luckily I have some people assisting in this. Thanks in advance for AceNoctali!)

- Music. (Showing the classical music and game music references from Gradius + other Konami-games)

- Gimmicks. (Here's some examples: there's the Oshaberi in Jikkyo Oshaberi Parodius which is from Power Pro-Kun-series and is actually *suprise suprise* Tako/Octopus himself from first two Parodius-games, MSX Parodius and Parodius Da respectively.)

-Enemies (Might be explained along the stages, but the recurring ones are explained separately)

- Bosses. (Where their attacks might come from. Some do sport extra attacks and there's also original or quest bosses from other Konami-games as well.)

If you love Konami or classic/retro SHMUPs of VG Golden Age, I recommend watching these.
Heck, if you love Smash Bros, give these videos a try. Show less

History Pehind Parodius Play

I've been playing a lot of Konami's Parodius-games lately. The series, as you might know, are a tongue-in-cheek parody of Gradius-series, and sometimes it does even parody other Konami's games (mostly in Jikkyo Oshaberi Parodius)

Somehow similar to Smash Bros. Even the weapon sets are borrowed from other game's of Konami, and from some 3rd party shooters.
