Knight Rider is an American television series that originally ran from September 26, 1982, to August 8, 1986.

The series was broadcast on NBC and starred David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight, a high-tech modern-day knight fighting crime with the help of an advanced, artificially intelligent and nearly-indestructible car.

Conceived and produced by Glen A. Larson, the show was an instant hit. "I wanted to do The Lone Ranger with a car", and "Kind of a sci-fi thing, with the soul of a western", Larson said in The Last Great Ride.

Plot
Self-made billionaire Wilton Knight rescues police detective Michael Long after a near fatal shot to the face, giving him a new identity (via plastic surgery) and a new name: Michael Knight. Wilton selects Michael to be the primary field agent in the pilot program of his Knight Industries-funded public justice organization, the Foundation for Law and Government (FLAG)

The other half of this pilot program is the Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT), a heavily modified Pontiac Trans Am with numerous features including an extremely durable shell and frame, controlled by a computer with artificial intelligence.

Michael and KITT are brought in during situations where "direct action might provide the only feasible solution".
Heading FLAG is Devon Miles, who provides Michael with directives and guidance. Dr. Bonnie Barstow is the chief engineer in charge of KITT's care, as well as technical assistant to Devon (April Curtis fills this role in Season 2).

Production
The car used as KITT in the series was a customized 1982 Pontiac Trans-Am sports model that cost US$100,000 to build.

George Barris n'a modifié que l'avant du véhicule. Le «Front Nose» (nez ou pare-choc avant) est changé, permettant l'insertion du gaget par excellence d'une Knight 2000 : le scanner .

Barris choisit de profiler un peu plus le nez de la Trans-Am par rapport à celui de l'original. L'ouverture en haut permet d'insérer le scanner sans découper le capot. Les ouvertures du bas permettent de monter les feux de brouillard. Le matériau employé ici est la fibre de verre : légère et aisément peignable.

Le nez, monté et avec scanner inséré. Notons ici au passage que ce «Front Nose» est pourvu d'ouvertures de part et d'autre du scanner pour permettre au propriétaire de laisser les feux de brouillard à leur emplacement d'origine.

I am a big fan of this legendary series since i was a little girl. I love the Pontiac Trans Am! I think the Pontiac from 1982 is the most beautiful car in the world.
