Cyclists aren't a very practical lot in general. Most people in the UK use Mountain bikes for commuting (inefficient) with no mudguard (hard on your commuting clothes) just because they think they look cool.

If you thought the ad was rubbish, it probably wasn't aimed at you. Marketeers produce adverts to appeal to the demographic most likely to buy a new car. Mostly intelligent people who earn enough money to do so. Some of the posters here probably don't fall into that category. (like me)
