I found the TRICK! When I tried this the first time the shirt was still damp - this time I let the soda ashed shirt sit outside a few days and dry. Worked like a charm! The dye did not run all over like it did the first time and I got a PERFECT peace sign! Thank you hobblephosk!!!

Wouldn't it be easier to soak the shirt beforehand so that it's already wet and to use the squirt bottles instead of dipping. You'd get more dye on the shirt.
