In response to the title question, maybe. No one knows since the aircraft has barely been tested, much less entered service, much less been combat proven. Could be better by the time its ready but its got a lot to prove, not least of which is quality of parts and engines.

@OnlyLifeMatters I rather doubt Cantonese or Mandarin are the most widely spoken languages in the world unless you consider population which would be a silly metric to follow. If its not english, its probably spanish as the most widely spoken around the world.

@dcccapfan There are no examples even close to being airworthy mate. I wont even go into the certifications and paperwork that would need to be done for just that one flight. No one is going to spend that kind of money for that, Airbus already stated they would never do it.

@bigneg95 Actually it really has more to do with wake generation. A 757 is often referred to as "heavy" because of the separation required between it and another aircraft behind.

@helljumpr5150 The P&W J-58s weren't ramjets. They also never operated supersonically. Instead at mach 3 cruise a large amount of the intake air bypassed the core of the engine and went straight to the afterburner. Basically it was a ramjet around and behind a turbojet :)

@CyberThom The biggest problem the russians had was engines, for some reason it took them a long time to get an engine that was both powerful and fuel efficient. A perfect example of this is one of my favorite bombers, the Tu-95 is turboprop powered. It wasnt until the Tu-160 they actually had so...

Despite his experience, I cannot understand how someone can calculate fuel loss visually... In any case, I simply cant believe the crew wasnt aware of a large fuel leak, assuming it was actually leaking and not being dumped. The purge is there as well. @xxuncexx Not sure I get your point. A submarine doesn't have the ability to fire on an aircraft and I doubt even with its noise that would be an effect early warning deterrent so...?
