Van Halen was started by two brothers from the Netherlands: Eddie (guitar) and Alex (drums) Van Halen. Together they met up with David Lee Roth (vocals) and Michael Anthony (bass) and started the band Van Halen. Their first gig was at Gazzaries, a local bar on the sunset strip. Gene Simmons of Kiss heard them play and offered to be their manager. They declined but accepted a record deal with Warner Brothers that Simmons helped them score. Soon Warner Brothers became their record label and on March 11, 1978 their first album, appropriately titled Van Halen, was released. Two years after their hit album 1984 was released, David Lee Roth was kicked from the band and in came Sammy Hagar. Along with Sammy Hagar, Van Halen, now commonly known as Van Hagar, still climbed the ladder of success and made their mark in the music industry. Since their first album release, Van Halen has recorded many hit songs including Dance the Night Away, Hot For Teacher, and You Really Got Me. They have also sold over 80 million albums. Today they are the top fifth band in the world but have won my heart as number one. Rock on Van Halen!!!=)
