Eydie Gorme brings down the house with a lovingly-done rendition of "After I'm Gone." In a 1978 special entitled A Tribute to the Palace Theater, our studio had been transformed into a replica of New York's Palace Theater, the Holy Grail of all vaudevillians. The special was produced by Sheldon Keller, a devoted vaude-affi-cionado (my word, but descriptive) and the lines throughout the show reflected his distinctive style. His writing partners, Howard Albrecht and Sol Weinstein (a team I had worked with on the Dean Martin Roasts), also shared writing credit.
You can read all about the how Hope worked with his guests and his writers and what happened behind-the-scenes of these classic Bob Hope video clips by reading my book "THE LAUGH MAKERS: A Behind-the-Scenes Tribute to Bob Hope's Incredible Gag Writers," chosen a "Top 20" 2009 Year End Pick by Leonard Maltin who says...
"Having spent twenty years writing for the indefatigable Bob Hope, and traveling all over the world, Bob Mills is well qualified to salute the famous corps of gagmen who kept the comedian knee-deep in jokes. These first-hand recollections summon up the final phase of Hope's career—and the end of the trail for an entire brand of show business." ************************** Order THE LAUGH MAKERS personally inscribed by theAuthor. John Denver dons beachwear and warbles "I'm in Love Again" on the beach near our hotel-on-stilts.
In 1987, Hope taped a 90-minute special in Tahiti. Produced by Elliott Kozak and Dick Arlett, the show would feature guests John Denver, Howard Keel, Jonathan Winters, Morgan Brittany, and the reigning Miss America, Susan Aiken. It would be taped in and around Moorea, Cook's Bay and the island chain's capital, Papeete.
You can read all about the how Hope worked with his guests and his writers and what happened behind-the-scenes of these classic Bob Hope video clips by reading my book "THE LAUGH MAKERS: A Behind-the-Scenes Tribute to Bob Hope's Incredible Gag Writers." Says "laugh-In's" Gary Owens: "The Laugh Makers is the book we've all been waiting for. It's jam-packed with stories, anecdotes and un-retouched photos from a fondly remembered past, recalling often hilarious, sometimes heartwarming, and always touching tales of legendary stars, near-legendary stars and one or two complete failures — which happens in show business. You can look it up in your Funk & Wagnalls." To get your copy, just click on this Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1593... Cover performed in the 2011 John Denver Tribute Benefit Concert, hosted by the great artist Kerstin Siewek. I've been so honored of having shared the stage with Kerstin, Ritchi, Gerd and the Children choir. I must also thank deeply the great work made by Frank and Jurgen in the music technics, Jessy and Jogi for the video filming, and of course the organizers and attendants to the concert for their nice and warm reactions.
"Always on my mind" is a very popular song written in 1972 by Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson. It's been covered by many singers, like Brenda Lee, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Michael Buble, etc.
Lyrics:
Maybe I didn't treat you Quite as often as I should have Maybe I didn't love you Quite as good as I could have
Little things I should have said and done I just never took the time You were always on my mind You were always on my mind
Maybe I didn't hold you All those lonely, lonely times And I guess I never told you I'm so happy that you're mine
If I made you feel second best Girl I'm sorry I was blind You were always on my mind You were always on my mind
Tell me Tell me that your sweet love hasn't died And give me Give me one more chance to keep you satisfied keep you satisfied
Little things I should have said and done I just never took the time You were always on my mind You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind You were always on my mind
