With U2 playing on the background, the main character (played by Jeff Bridges) "suspends the ethical"
by crashing a car into a wall and shows the passenger a higher level of existential/religious understanding. It becomes a kind of epiphany for her - an example of Christ figure as contradiction. Peter Weir was the director - a genius of similar type films ("Witness", "The Last Wave","Dead Poet's Society, "Picnic at Hanging Rock").
The actual clip can be found on Youtube (with Rosie Perez as the passenger). I was both stunned and deeply moved when I saw it.
