Bio: (taken from the KFN website)
Originally from Newark, New Jersey, KFN (born Robert Knight, III) developed his love for music at age 10. The 31 year-old rapper/singer/producer has either been around or involved in music practically most of his life. He developed his vocal abilities singing in church choirs and high school chorales while honing lyrical stylings listening to hip-hop artists like LL Cool J, Wyclef Jean and Busta Rhymes.
Although currently residing in Florida, he had no trouble adapting to the Southern style of rap, dubbing him "The Southern Yankee". Beginning at age 18, he has written hip-hop and R&B songs based on personal thoughts and experiences. As far as production skills, he developed those having been inspired by the likes of Timbaland, Kanye West, Dr. Dre and J-Dilla.
His professional career began at age 20, perfoming in talents shows and public events. He then joined fellow artist, Drastic to become rap duo 2 Critical. Together, they created incredible street buzz with their mixture of Hip-Hop and R&B, and continue to maintain their status to this day.
His first taste of true success came in 2006 when Drastic joined the group Trap Boyz, with KFN in tow as a featured artist. Ultimately, given his credentials as an artist and a producer, he became a permanent member of the group, going on to open up for artists such as Trina and Hip-Hop legends Whodini, Slick Rick, Doug E. Fresh and Rob Base. Their sound would eventually reach the airwaves when they created an opening theme song for late-night DJ Jomama Johnson at 95.7 The Beat in Tampa, Florida. The beat to the theme was produced and co-written by KFN himself. With the group, he and fellow groupmates Drastic, 1 Rell and Big Chief would survive the coming and going of many members. In 2008, however, due to uncontrollable circumstances, he decided to pursue a solo career.
KFN openly describes himself as a "walking gray area." "I'm not trying to be 'this rapper' or 'this singer'," he says. "I'm being myself at all times. As far as his personal life, although being diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome going into his 20's, his craft as well as his upbringing have given him focus and drive throughout the years. "I have what I have, but it doesn't have me," he claims. "I didn't speak until I was seven years old. Since then, I've always felt the need to say what was on my heart or my mind, whether it's right or wrong.
This personal philosophy virtually spilled into his two upcoming projects. His debut solo album, "Walking Gray Area", a product of his own self-proclamation, touches on subjects ranging from personal experience to the rap game itself, while his mixtape/EP, "Out Of The Box" serves as its prequel.
