How the song came about: On the night of; November 11, 2009 - Introduction poetry written November 11, 2010- Song written
Why I wrote it? Simple. To honour my brothers in arms. The ones that are still alive, the ones that left this world early. The same ones that gave us the freedom that we so often take for granted. Being a serving member of the military myself, I felt like it was almost my duty to make one dedicated to the veterans. I wanted someone on this song that would be the driving factor to this whole message. Contacted Jan de Vries immediately and sure enough he was all for the idea. We sat for hours along with his wife, Joanne and just spoke about the things he had seen. Things that he felt needed to be told to not just myself, but the world. It was indeed an honour to sit with him. He's not just a friend or a fellow comrade, he is a hero to me. Someone I wish to be like in my 'younger' years to come. It is because of guys like Jan that I can continue to write, sing, record and live life in general. Believe me, everything we do today is due to their sacrifices. Next time you see a veteran, show your respects and thank them for those sacrifices. That's all.
