Thanks for the feedback! It is true that I supplement my real life business by expanding into the virtual world. But I have found there to be far more professional work to be had virtually than there is in the 'physical' world architecture at this point, and have since transitioned the majority of my practice into purely virtual work. How is this any different than the work a web designer does? Its the same - only in 3D. Lots of people have computer jobs, and spend all day doing abstract work on a computer... engineers, web designers, accountants, CAD drafting, etc. Are they trying to escape reality too? Using a virtual world is no more of an escape from real life than surfing the web, or reading a book.

Hey sixty7architectureRd you're missing the point, Jon has supplemented his real life business by expanding his talent into a virtual world. That is the point of Second Life, to take things beyond real life! Check out what he's building in real life on his very real website than decide if this particular virtual "matrix" has some benefit after all.
Oh and fantastic video Jon, by the way!

hi, i think your videos are well good, how long does it take to think and plan and build 1 house for yyour "team"??

There are some people who spend more time living life in Second Life, than living life in real life. Is real life really that bad? I know some of us can't afford to pay our mortgages, but surely real life is worth living. There were a couple X-Files episodes that dealt with people trying to kill themselves in real life so they could pass into a virtual world and live life there. I wonder what steak tastes like in a virtual world. I guess only Cipher knows. >>>you Matrix fans will know what I'm talking about.

can u build anything u want for free in second life?
danielsarch (1 year ago)
Hi I'm an architecture student that was planning to use Second Life to make buildings using dwgs from my earlier classes. I was wondering can I use any buildings I make on SL as part of my portfolio?
