Sorry no more of the Paul Westerburg MTV interview footage from the late nineties--got it from a sisters old boyfriend that I no longer see. Yes, I got to see the 'Mats during Tim tour where they played nothing but covers and pissed me off so I never bothered again (I was satisfied with "When the Shit Hits The Fans" live tape--it was a hit on the bus during the church skiing road trip trip to Vail in 9th grade. Talked to Slim in the basement of the 7th St. Entry. Saw Tommy on the city bus by the city Lake Harriet and saw Bob on a bench there hanging out. I see Gary Louris and David Pirner more than the others at 1st Ave club. Saw Tommy play with Bash and Pop in a couched lounge/bar in Los Angeles while on business. Talked to him before the show about seeing him at Lake Harriet and the Elves door there in a little tree for whom people leave presents. We laughed..we cryed, you know.
you asked me a few days ago about the mats. well i have been a fan of them since i could walk. i have been to dozens of PW solo shows and yes he is one of the best of all time. no question bout it.
p.s. what comment of mine were you speaking of
I saw them in 89 in King's theatre, part of some great amusement park north of Toronto
yeah, Petty mentioned in between songs that he was calling them the Placemats.
The moment I remember the most was when the Placemats were really getting into a song, staggering all over the stage and each other, when someone threw a T-shirt on the stage. Paul immediately stopped playing took off his guitar, and put the T-shirt on, strapped his guitar back on and continued to play. That was the coolest thing I've ever seen a band do
you asked me a while back if i was a Westerberg fan and i sent you a hisory and some info, but there was no response - or even a thank you. Just wondering what kind of answers you were looking for and how does an old guy like Westerberg appeal to a 20ish girl of today?
