חיילים אלמונים הוא שיר שמילותיו נכתבו בשנת 1932 על ידי אברהם שטרן (יאיר), מייסד ומפקד הלח"י, והיה זה אחד מבין שיריו הראשונים. את השיר הלחינו הוא ורעייתו, רוני. השיר היה להמנונה של תנועת האצ"ל עד שנת 1940, אז פרשה ממנו הלח"י והשיר הפך להמנונה. בשיר באה לידי ביטוי נכונות ההקרבה הבלתי מתפשרת למען האומה. השורה האחרונה של הבית הראשון של השיר הפכה להמנון של תנועת האצ"ל:

אברהם שטרן ("יאיר") (23 בדצמבר 1907, י"ח בטבת ה'תרס"ח -- 12 בפברואר 1942, כ"ה בשבט ה'תש"ב) היה לוחם מחתרת ומשורר יהודי, מייסדו ומפקדו הראשון של ארגון "לוחמי חירות ישראל" (לח"י). נודע גם בשם "יאיר", שהיה כינויו המחתרתי (על שם אלעזר בן יאיר, ממפקדי המרד הגדול נגד הרומאים ומפקד הקנאים במצדה).
שטרן, פעיל אצ"ל, עמד בשנת 1940 בראש קבוצת פורשים שהסתייגו מהתמתנות גישתו של הארגון בכל הקשור למאבק בשלטון המנדט הבריטי והתפלגו לארגון עצמאי שלימים נקרא לח"י. לכל אורך הדרך נרדפו חברי הארגון, ושטרן בראשם, בידי הבולשת הבריטית, שראתה מטרה עליונה בחיסול פעילותו. המצור הלך והתהדק סביב שטרן, עד שבפברואר 1942 נתפס בידי אנשי הבולשת ונרצח בירייה עם מעצרו.

who founded and led the militant Zionist organization later known as Lehi.
The lyrics of "Unknown Soldiers" were written by Avraham Stern.
The song became the anthem of the Irgun and remained so until 1940 when Lehi broke off. The song expresses an unlimited willingness to sacrifice. The anthem is sung by veteran members of the group in gatherings as well as by some political groups from time to time, from both ends of the political map.
On the 70th anniversary of Yair Stern's murder, ZFA is honoring his memory by appraising the progress of the Zionist Revolution and working to identify goals for today's activists to achieve.
