The Grand Old Party was founded as a direct response to the debate over the 1854 Kansas-Nebraska act. Our state and our party share common roots in the abolitionist movement.
Our Kansas Republican lineage is traced to those committed idealists who had the courage to oppose slavery and those rugged pioneers who had the perseverance to settle the West.
Not surprisingly, the greatest Kansas leaders have always been Republican leaders. The GOP is the proud home of Charles Curtis, Alf Landon, Dwight Eisenhower, Bob Dole and Nancy Kassebaum.
