About Me:
Both I, the shrine, and its priestess, Sanae hail from the outside world. We left the outside world as faith in me began to vane, due to humans becoming more and more advanced. And thus rejecting the importance of gods.
Since my power depend on how strong faith in me is, I came to the conclusion that moving to Gensokyo, despite my lack of knowledge of it, would be for the best.
The move went quite smoothly (which was to be expected, after all it was done by me), and I placed the shrine (together with an lake) on a mountain called the Youkai Mountain. Gathering faith was easy, and soon my powers began to grow again.
But all was not good, since I only had worshippers on the Youkai Mountain and not anywhere else. I believed that this would create an imbalance in Gensokyo. And the only way to solve this problem was to make the entire Gensokyo worship me. So I sent Sanae over to the other shrine whose shrine maiden is named Reimu, I believe. Unfortunately Reimu turned down my offer, and in turn began an investigation of her own to learn more about Sanae and me. This investigation would eventually thwart my plan.
But in the end, everything turned out all right. So it doesn't really matter, right?
And if you're wondering about the name of the shrine, it was named after its first god, Suwako Moriya. She relinquished control of the shrine long ago when I defeated her in battle during a campaign to unify Japan. As a matter of fact, Suwako also came with us to Gensokyo.
