Kai Stensgaard, marimba artist and composer from Denmark. KS is one of the pioneers in six mallet playing, and he has composed several works for six mallets. Many of his compositions and arrangements have been performed by marimba players all over the world. He has been giving concerts and clinics in Europe, USA, Puerto Rico, Chile, Argentina and Mexico. The meeting with the marimba tradition and culture of Mexico has given a big influence on his style of playing and composing music. A result of that is a lot of concert tours with the project "Marimbas on Tour" together with Marimba Nandayapa from Mexico and a concerto for Marimba and Orchestra "Concierto Mexicano" For many years he has been mixing jazz and classical music in the duo "Calabash" with the Danish saxophone player Jakob Mygind. His effort to find a bigger audience for the marimba, by mixing with other instruments, has resulted in concert tours with "POZO" playing Argentinean folk music with the singer and percussion player Gabriel Amadeo Videla and the duo "Marimbamboo" playing folklore music with pan flute player Charlotte Halberg.
He has recorded six CDs, two DVDs and published a method for six mallet playing.
