Kentucky On Stage 2011
Kentucky on Stage, presented annually by the Kentucky Arts Council, is a showcase, mini-booking conference and training opportunity for performing arts presenters, librarians, festival organizers, park directors, Main Street and Renaissance program managers, wedding and event planners, civic leaders, college and university activity boards, educators, community center directors and others. Kentucky on Stage features Kentucky performers who have been juried into the arts council's Performing Arts Directory in music, dance, theater and storytelling.
The Governor's Awards in the Arts 2011
The Governor's Awards in the Arts are the Commonwealth's highest honor in the arts, recognizing individuals, organizations and businesses that have made extraordinary and significant contributions to the arts in Kentucky. The Kentucky Arts Council coordinates the nomination process for the nine categories of awards.
The Makings of a Master
. Since 1993, the Kentucky Arts Council has supported masters and apprentices of community-based art forms with the Folk and Traditional Arts Apprenticeship program. Artists include traditional musicians, dancers, weavers, marble makers, chair makers, quilters, storytellers, and more.
Kentucky Writers' Day 2011
Poet, writer and teacher Maureen Morehead of Louisville was formally inducted as Kentucky Poet Laureate for the two-year term of 2011 -- 2012. Morehead was appointed to the honorary post by Gov. Steve Beshear to promote the literary arts in Kentucky through readings and public presentations at meetings, seminars, conferences and events, including Kentucky Writers' Day.
Morehead was joined by former Kentucky Poets Laureate Gurney Norman, Jane Gentry, Sena Jeter Naslund, Joe Survant and Richard Taylor in presenting readings of their work.
