60I am 59 years old, a mom of three adult children and recently a grandma. I started a new journey toward lap band surgery and ended up with RNY gastric by-pass.

After 7 months of supervised dietician visits that were required before my insurance would cover the surgery and having a date set for my surgery, the surgeon called me in and told me he would not do lapband surgery. He was concerned that the strictures and damage to my esophagus discovered in the pre-surgery work up, would get worse with lap band. He recommended gastric bypass. I took a couple months to think about it, and on September 23, 2009 I had RNY gastric bypass surgery.

As excited as I am about the surgery, there is an underlying fear of failure. I am hoping that the community that I have discovered here will help me stay the course and help me on the way.
