About Me:
Every seven minutes, someone in America will become blind or visually impaired. At our campus in the Windsor Hills area of Los Angeles, Junior Blind of America is committed to serving individuals who are blind or visually impaired across all stages of life, from birth to adulthood. Our state-of-the-art campus features a non-public school offering educational and behavioral therapy, residential rehabilitative programs for children and adults, a cutting-edge assistive technology lab, a gymnasium and aquatics center, a specially-adapted sensory playground, and more.
Junior Blind of America provides services to thousands of individuals and their families every year through programs that offer innovative and individualized methods of early-intervention therapy, education, recreation and rehabilitation.
Additionally, Junior Blind of America's Camp Bloomfield offers children who are blind or visually impaired a natural, safe environment where they learn independence, develop self-esteem and fully experience the joys of childhood. Nestled in the hills of the Santa Monica Mountains in Malibu, California, this 40-acre campground is the only facility of its kind in the western United States.
Junior Blind of America also hosts two signature annual events: the Junior Blind Olympics and the Camp Bloomfield Summer Festival. Every spring, children who are blind or visually impaired come from around the nation to compete in Olympic-style events, including archery, the high jump, the long jump, shot put, and the 100-yard dash, among others. In the summer, Junior Blind of America welcomes the community to visit Camp Bloomfield for the annual Summer Festival -- an inspiring, fun and interactive full-day event that features activities intended to educate, enhance awareness, and increase sensitivity toward issues of blindness and vision impairment.
One of the longest-serving organizations for the blind and visually impaired community, Junior Blind of America has been guided by only three CEOs during its more than 50 years of service. President and CEO Miki Jordan joined the organization in 2006 after guiding Para Los NiƱos, a Los Angeles family service agency, through 15 years of incredible growth and prosperity. The vision she brings to the organization ensures Junior Blind of America's legacy of excellence will continue, while the depth and reach of its programs and services extend throughout California and beyond.
