By that I mean 'Hedgehog' technology, Bletchley Park (Enigma Cipher war won in the end), Liberator planes and catapult aircraft on carriers, the Leigh Searchlight, Metox reciever and so on because in the end the Germans lost the submarine war ...

@HeirofGojira91 I was saying to somebody else I think the UK was putting a lot of technical effort into radar for ships and submarines not tanks (like the Comet) and I guess the lives of tankers were sacrificed on the back of that sad fact.

I remember visiting Gurnsey 40 years ago as a kid and my dad's local friend showing us a bunker, not that far from the airport, that was 'undetected' or just left alone. We were on our own without all the fanfare of this video. Much better then and I was quite impressed.

@Ben998x I think not. That 17 pounder was an excellent gun and the tank had a great engine and was better armoured than prevous UK tanks and Comet led to Centurion which as you know was even better.

Personally I think it’s a good documentary series. These oral histories are almost like diaries – IMO the best source for history

What a Jerk. I don't think the Russian people deserved Stalin. The Russians, the army and people, helped beat Hitler. Stalin just got in the way. Hitler on one side and Stalin on the other could only mean total war. Sad for both nations.

@gunninlinguist You obviously don't read very much. No fighting nation was a slouch in WW2.

@DerMessermann. Sorry to correct but actually I think the Lancaster etc was used for killing civillians (area bombing) as was the Heinkel during the 'Blitz' on the UK. On the other hand the Americans generally went for industrial targets.

@ad220588 If the UK jet engines had been tweeked/mapped/chip, call it what you will, then maybe we might have seen some interesting chases in the sky. I think even the early Hawker Tempests were as fast as the Meteor - crazy really. I suppose they did not want to risk anything that late in the war.

I once chased a Jagpanther all over the map with a load of Commando Piats - expensive purchase but a bit of fun. It was on its own with no troops and had to run away.
