Steve Perry dedicated a Journey song to all of his ball huggers. You might be familiar with it since its from the Escape Album. Track 3 is titled "Who's Cryin' Now".

Deen is singing because he has the skill to be a lead vocalist. Obviously his first and foremost passion is the drums, but don't bash Pineda because the band is electing to share Deen's talents. Pineda can hit every single note just fine. I've seen Pineda perform Who's Cryin' Now more than Deen.
