Alrighty!! Incoming cheese.
Cloud and Zack are best friends as well as partners who would take on the same SOLDIER missions and basically compete for the top spot, Oh and der in love :D
No one trusts them and everyone suspects what's really going on can't back it up with any proof so naturally can't accuse them.
Zack takes Cloud and tries to convince him to leave SOLDIER alongside him, or they'll both be found out and killed. He tries to persuade him it's all about them, nothing else matters, and they'll run away together if they have to. After agreeing to leave with him, Cloud leads Zack into a setup where mass amounts of Shinra soldiers are ready and prepared to take Zack down. With Zack gone and Cloud denying any love affair, he sets Zack up (Along the lines of Zack wants to leave SOLDIER he's going to reveal all ur SEEKRETS! :OO)
thinking he could then become the top of SOLDIER, his dream, taking over Zack's place. 1st place.
He sees it as a winning opportunity. As Zack lays dying Cloud crawls up to him after being injured in the previous fight and looks over him with guilt. Zack still loves him and pulls him into him for a final kiss. Yeah I'm a cornball
You see some final "Convincing" scenes where Zack is trying to persuade Cloud to leave [inc zack thought: where it shows them both dead if they don't get out soon], before the hero finally dies and Cloud is filled with grief.
