I began my Kenpo studies In Los Angeles in 1984 at the West Los Angeles & Santa Monica Ed Parker School (same school changed locations) under Master Larry Tatum, receiving private lessons under Mr. Jeff Speakman. Later the Los Angeles school was managed by Mr. Bryan Hawkins and Mr. Mohamad Tabatabi. Again I was fortunate to study with them and take a regular late night advanced class with Senior Grand Master Ed Parker and a regular "Fight Night" class in freestyle taught by Master Frank Trejo. I also must thank Mr. Howard Silva, Mr. Steve Gluckman, Mr. Lex Sensenbrenner, Mr. Don Barany and all those I trained with for their additional help and guidance. I completed my training after a move to Seattle and returned to Los Angeles for a successful Black Belt test at Bryan Hawkins school in 1992. The testing board included Mr. Bryan Hawkins, Mr. Jeff Speakman, Ms. Barbera Hale, Mr. Frank Trejo and Mr. Jack Autry. Mr. Trejo represented me at the belt ceremony. The Kenpo journey has been a great experience. I now find the process of trying to pass along the teachings of Mr. Parker another rewarding challenge in the journey. It's all been pretty cool.JB
