JOHN'S ENGINE RESEARCH

My name is John and I am currently working on a system, that improves the efficiency of combustion engines.

In an internal combustion engine not more than 25% of the fuel's energy is converted into mechanical work, the rest is wasted in form of heat. I wonder if we can't recycle that heat energy in some way?

Fuel reforming
--------------------

Fuel reforming is a method of producing hydrogen or other useful products from fossil fuels. A mixture of air, fuel and steam is fed into a reactor, which is heated externally. At a specific temperature a variety of reactions (e.g. low temperature partial oxidation of the fuel) could occur, influencing the mixture formation. A partial conversion of the fuel is likely to happen and under appropriate boundary conditions the reaction lead to chain shortening of the hydrocarbons with no or little change of the fuel's calorific value.
Some fuel reformers burn a part of the fuel to provide the heat for the reaction.
My fuel reformer is heated by exhaust gases eliminating the need for burning a part of the fuel.

My experiments

I want to make the fuel reformer as efficient as possible. By optimizing the system in terms of feed temperature, reactor temperature, pressure, air to fuel and steam to fuel ratio, type of catalyst and reactor sizes I try to obtain an endothermic reaction so that the reactor products contain a higher chemical energy than the reactor feed.
The product is then burned in the engine and if the reactor is working properly, the consumption of gasoline will be less.
Test engine is a retrofitted 6.5 hp power generator. I am examining the system scientifically and unprejudiced.

I share my experiences and test results here on youtube and on the yahoo group "vortexheatexchanger" and hopefully I motivate others to do the same.

I'd like to point out, that Mr. Paul Pantone invented a device called GEET reactor, which he says is a miniature fuel reformer. The plans for the GEET are available for free for private research. Google for "GEET Panotone".
