Well hey there!

So it's been unanimously decided by the three of us that our band is officially known as Act 10.5.
There's a story in this, but that's for another profile area...
I'm John, their guitarist, and your host as you read this. :)
So....the three of us are currently high school seniors (I probably won't update this too often, but bear with me; class of 2012. That should help) and have been jamming together for about two years. We've gone to middle school together, but never really hung out; Anna (the blonde bandit) asked me to play guitar for her in the school-wide talent show of our junior year. I was a little skeptical at first, but knowing Anna and her incredible singing ability, I obliged---that was the first step in an insanely strong bond. She also asked if it was alright if Rachel (the freckled ninja) jumped in. My response: "Can Rachel sing?!" That day in the band room, I found out---she can SING.

Anna's a long-legged, five-foot-two dancer, pianist, singer, 4.0+ GPA student, polite and eloquent chick. Rachel's an Okinawan (Asian), bluntly honest, short-and-sweet chick with a fiery voice who can manage to play guitar. (I can't deny their talent, but it scares me that I might be replaceable, lol.)

So I was the one guy in the tiny band room closet with two girls, lucky me, huh? We came up with our talent show piece in about half an hour. What I loved was the fact that Rachel and her brutal honesty would tell me straight what I was doing wrong--"No, too fast. No, I can't hit that high. No. No no no." Frankly, it was criticism that I had never received, but to fit in the mould of a rhythm guitarist, I needed it all. Anna, on the other hand, has a voice that is a little less prominent--but she has absolutely FLAWLESS pitch control, and could harmonize to a car horn honking if she wanted to. Self-taught harmonizing singer. That doesn't happen often. She's also an incredibly flexible vocalist, which perfectly complimented Rachel's this-is-where-it's-at singing style.

BACK TO THE POINT. We played a medley known as "Forget you, baby, there's a shark in the water knocking me down on Sunday Morning." Shortened as FYBTSWKMDSM.

We managed second of six acts. :D
We were eligible for districts, and we were on the road once more, jamming daily at my house to get everything down. And we went up on stage, jammed our hearts out, and took second again--in the Tri-High District Talent Show (No Harry Potter allusion intended) between three schools around the island of Kaua'i. I was so proud of my two phenomenal singers: the school-wide talent show had been Rachel's FIRST GIG, and she nailed it!! And Anna had composed the medley in the first place, the crowd's reaction just completed it all! And then I let them know.....that was the first time I had ever backed up a group on guitar. Ever. Ha!

So we still jam at Hanapepe Art Walk every Friday on Kaua'i, Hawaii, for tips. We also hang out at the Jam Room, in Kukui Grove, to entertain small groups....and right now a few songs are in the works, to be unveiled someday soon.
