This channel is a Materialist Defense of Beliefs.
About Me:

"Everytime you read it or say it you make another copy of it in your brain; everytime you read it or say it you make another copy of it in your brain; everybody now, everytime you read it or say it you make another copy of it in your brain."
-- Daniel Dennett, (Cognitive Scientist and philosopher, Professor, Tufts University)

*********************************************************** I research youtube for quality videos that supports a positive atheist, humanist, or self-defense perspective of the world. *********************************************************** While affirmative positive atheism is a major defense of many religious institutional dogmas imposed on the rest of us, it MUST also be a defense of evolution and science generally, as well as a defense of religiously imposed repressions of women, children and gays. *********************************************************** Its OK to tell a child who asks that you believe there are no gods and that they are in the process of developing their own beliefs. It's SAFE to be an atheist!********************************************************** SCIENCE: -- Evolution is a group of FACTS! Life evolves through slow changes over time. -- A scientific theory is an explanation supported with facts; The Scientific explanation is the best explanation. *********************************************************** BELIEFS-- We all most probably hold some incorrect beliefs. -- Beliefs are most probably mere brain-states!-- Particular brain-states probably become more reinforced the more we use them.-- It is SAFE to change your beliefs!

Great interests section. I like how you used the word "safe" because it's fitting and is perfect. Of course the religious people are there to tell you to be afraid of everything, but most of that stuff is imaginary, which makes it very safe to reject those fears.
Thanks for the friend-add, will you be putting up any videos?

Religious beliefs are fine (people should be able to believe what they want). I have a problem with religions being used to justify actions or laws. Contraception should be accessible to all, and Popes or other religious leaders should use better arguments than their religious reasons when promoting a ban on contraceptives: religious reasons are lame! Some Muslims or others "can believe they want to put me in a hole and throw stones at me all they want, as long as they don't actually do it." Wafu Sultan. Many actions in the name of religion are what is lame and do not and could not get us any closer to discussing what the right thing to do is. Cold-blooded murder is wrong because we would not want it done to us but NOT because it is one of the ten-commandments.

No one knows what happens after death, although many atheists and materialists (I am both) believe that 'experience' after death is very much so like our 'experience' was before birth. People live after death in the memories of those who knew them and through the work they left behind. There are no good reasons to believe that there is life for the individual after his or her death. Can we share a moment in appreciation for all those who worked so hard producing all that we see before us: roads, buildings, educated people, books, music, and everything else that is good that humans have created, produced or gathered?

Ok John, you win my friend. I can see you've made up your mind. It would take more than just words to convince you, and that I'm not in control of.
One question left for you, if you want to answer:
What happens after death for a human being? Your thoughts would be interesting.
JohnHasSeriousQ (3 years ago)
No, no sherriedale. That's where we differ in thinking. I say there are no good reasons to believe in the supernatural because there is no way to scientifically test the supernatural; you say a god MUST exist! Scientific explanations of our world, like Evolution and The Big Bang, have NOT been linked to ANY supernatural cause. Forgive me for assuming you are being disingenuous with your claim for a 'love of understanding the universe'. If this were true you would first need to admit that the possibility of a god should not be considered as the cause of what you wish to understand. Secondly, you must set aside all biases about a cause of what you wish to understand. Thirdly, and most importantly, you must study data and discoveries about life or the universe as they really are. Simplicity in explanations about the world should be so without dependence on any supernatural. These explanations should stand alone with or without a god.
sherriedale2 (3 years ago)
No John, You're not thinking deep enough on it. The "mental phenomena" is exactly the key. The creation of the universe, and notice I said "creation", is only a part of the whole picture.
Evolution, Big Bang, or whatever you want to come up with, is ALL of God's works. No matter how you look at it, or how it fits in, God is in control. I think He is in control of our connection here on YouTube John. I found you through TheDarkLordLucifer's comment box.
Thank you for listening to what I had to say, and thank you for being kind enough to respond, because I did want to know your thoughts.

sherriedale,
I empathize with your sincerity in your deeply felt beliefs. I think we all hold some incorrect beliefs. Beliefs are important, but modifying our beliefs for the better is more important. Sometimes this entails abandoning some beliefs for better explanations much more believable.
With that in mind, questioning where the planets and other objects in the universe came from does not mean there is some 'higher intelligence' behind it. Questioning why we can think and fall in love and other mental phenomena is not cause to believe in a god.
sherriedale2 (3 years ago)
John, the very picture you use as your profile, is proof. Do you actually think that planet came into existence on it's own? Even if there is a "big bang" theory, God was in control of it.
And what about your conscious mind? If life was by chance, we might have a "body", but how would that explain our thought process, dreams, consciousness, love for another person, etc.? Can a flower love another flower?
Please answer me, I want to know what you're thinking. If you love studying the universe like I do, then how can you observe and study it without knowing there has to be a " higher intelligence" in control of it all?
JohnHasSeriousQ (3 years ago)
I believe there is no god because I have found no evidence or good reasons to believe in a god. Fear or guilt are not evidence or good reasons; because my family and others around me believe are not evidence or good reasons.
