THANK YOU for viewing these video clips and listening to the audio clips.
------------------------------
These video and audio clips were uploaded here especially for the fans who grew up in Singapore or Malaysia in the 1950's and 1960's, and are now living far, far away from your childhood home.
------------------------------
A collaboration and partnership of good brothers-in-spirit and fellow Mad Quests Fans.
------------------------------
Thanks, JOSEPH C. PEREIRA, aka Goldenvenus, aka The Guru of Singapore 60's Pop Music.
------------------------------
The real heroes of Singapore 60's Popular Music were the recording artistes, the singers and the musicians. Thank you all for the memories.

Sorry!! - We disabled the option for people to leave comments at the individual clips because we have no good way of monitoring all the comments and spams at the clips individually.

Hi Joe, I'm glad you preserved all these local recordings.
I am unable to find recordings by Singapore harmonica player, Ho Chong Wing.
Among his recordings are Dahil Sayo, Bengawan Solo and other Asian songs.
I had a few cassette tapes of Ho's popular hits but they were destroyed by moulds before i could convert them into CD's. I hope someone who has them can upload them.

Thank you for all these videos. I listen to the local music scene today and I always wondered how the past sounded like. I'm currently doing a school assignment on 70s music, though I can't find any Singapore music of 70s, I'm glad there's at least the 60s.

Dear Randy Lee in Indonesia,

Wow, I am so honored to get your message. A member of The Stylers actually writing to me!

Yes, I am in Seattle, Washington, USA. I was born in Singapore and grew up there until 1968, when I migrated to America. From 1968 to 2003 I did not physically hear any Singapore 60s Pop Music. In 2003 I began earnestly to recollect my beloved childhood music.

All those Malaysian/Indonesian instrumentals you mentioned, I know them from a cassette tape of the album "Visit Malaysia Year 1990." This is the kind of great guitar music that I love. I wish some CD company in Singapore would reissue this album. I would order several copies.

Thank you for listing the names of The Stylers.

(Randy, I sent you a private message.)

Hi JoeWu
Are you residing at Seattle WA USA?
Just happen to browse through the YouTube last week and came across your posting of tunes by the Stylers, the tune Di Tanjong Katong was taken from the Stylers' LP "Our Songs". Featured in this LP are also tunes from Malaysia, Indonesia , like Chan Mali Chan, Bangawan Solo, Nina Bobo, Singapura....
Yes... Stylers do also back up music for singers like Chang Siow Ying, Chen Chiat, Long Piau Piau, Ling Seow, Wong Ching Yuen, CC Lee, Robin, Lisa Wong, Lena Lim, Huang Li Qin, Michelle Xie, and many more...
Btw the photo at the end of this song shows..from left to right Robert Song (percussion) Douglas Tan (Bassist) John Teo (lead guitar) Alvin Wong (drummer) and myself Randy Lee (rhythm guitar)
Thanks for the memories.

Dear D3lp,

I wish I had video clips of The Checkmates from the old, old days, not just the ones here. Trust me, if I had any of those old black-and-white television videos, I would have posted them long before now to share with everyone. Your dad, Amir Samsoedin, played the drums for one of the most respected R & B guitar bands from the Singapore 60's era. The combination of The Cyclones with The Checkmates was just lethal. I play their old records today and the group sounds so timeless to me. "Your Thoughts, Your Cares And You" will rock on forever.

I hope you find what you're looking for in Singapore. Guru Joseph Pereira is a great resource.

Best regards.

Dear teak97,

Regarding these two Singapore 60's compilations, thank you so much for thinking of me.

Yes, I have both of these compilations. My friend Joseph Pereira is the Product Consultant of "More Singapore 60's" just as he was for "100 Greatest (Philips) Singapore 60's." My friend Vernon Cheong worked with EMI Singapore on both volumes of the original "Recollecting Singapore 60's," and this edition that came out two months ago is actually the third issue of these two CD's combined into one package.

As a matter of fact, I am listening to Heather and the Diamond Four singing "Do You Care" as I am writing this reply to you.

Hope you are enjoying all these oldies as much as I am.

Best regards.

From teak97 in my Inbox:

Hello there

I wonder if you've come across these 2 recently released CD collections, each of which has 2 CDs:
More! Singapore 60s Treasures from the Vault
Recollecting Singapore 60s

I came across them in HMV last week and couldn't resist buying them. It was such a pleasure listening to Sandra Reemer singing Singapura. Her voice still rings so young and pure after so many decades.

With best wishes

Dear topostonyo,

You were so fortunate, to have seen Naomi and The Boys perform live. Wish I had been there with you that day. Security personnel would have probably come drag me off the stage. To be so close to my goddess, aaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!

From topostonyo in my Inbox:

Hello Joe,

My, you have added more songs since I last wrote to you in October '08. Thank you for sharing them with many fans around the world. I had just listened to 'Roller Coaster Man' by the Quests and a few by Naomi & the Boys. I was fortunate to see her perform at a hotel lounge (I think) during my visit to Singapore in '77. Thanks again and keep it up.
