About this user

My band, the 52nd Street Jazz Band, plays Chicago jazz, a style played by Eddie Condon, Wild Bill Davidson and Peanuts Hucko. The rhythm sections of these bands use string bass and guitar, rather than tuba and banjo.

We play in a swing-style, 4-to-the-bar manner unlike the 2-beat style of many dixieland bands. The 52nd Street Jazz Band plays a wide variety of tunes, including jazz standards as well as the Great American Songbook selections from the 1930's by Gershwin, Kern, Porter, and Berlin.

The Moldy Fig Jazz Band, which I also lead, is a New Orleans style dixieland band with banjo and tuba.

I have played with: Bill Armstrong's Churchill Street Jazz Band, Gene Berthelsen's Catsnjammers, the Boondockers, Bob Romans's Cell Block 7, Dick Knutson's Desert City Six, and Dr. Sasparilla's Red Hot Jazz Band.

On occasion I have played with Allan Vaché, Tommy Loy and Bob Draga.

I am Vice-President of the Arizona Classic Jazz Society and a Director of the American Federation of Jazz Societies.
