I'm speechless ! Well almost . . . I adore Jonas anyway but had never come across Katarina before. The two of them together - magnifique ! Considering this was a concert presentation, I should love to see the two of them play it for real.

The emotion in his voice goes straight to my very soul. I can weep and have goosebumps all at the same time. Wonderful, a voice like no other.

Beautiful, yes; slow, yes - it nearly sent me to sleep. But this is supposed to be a love duet - yet they never get close enough to even shake hands ! I don't get it !! They hardly look ecstatic about it !!

@miciatoffina I was there last Thursday (26th) and I totally agree. The performances were outstanding, especially René Pape, Anja Harteros and of course, Jonas. From the very first moment I thought he totally electrified the theatre ! It was quite amazing to be there.

We seem to have lost the sound for the last 2 minutes of this. Pity !

I'm not normally someone who cares to hark back to the voices of the past - I prefer to move on and look to the future of opera. I have to say however, that, having found this recording quite by chance, it is certainly worth listening to. Magnificent !!

@LordMgls It's certainly very similar to Netrebko's outfit in the first act of Lucia from the Met production a couple of years ago. Almost indistinguishable in fact - there's a video of it on here for comparison !

I agree with tenorvoicefan - an entertainer certainly but how could you possibly take him seriously with that face, those eyebrows ! More like a singing Mr Bean. Take a look at Jonas Kaufmann and then see if you still think Rolando is 'the best' !
