About Me:
Formally in the vocal group KAT-TUN, JIN AKANISHI helped establish numerous records for the popular group. Their 11 CD singles, 4 CD albums, and 7 DVDs all reached #1 in the Japanese National Charts, and in 2009, they became the first artists ever to perform eight consecutive days at Tokyo Dome Stadium(capacity 55,000) - one of the largest and most prestigious venues in Japan.
In 2009, JIN AKANISHI began his activities as a solo artist and again climbed to #1 in the National charts with his first single, which was also the theme track for the movie "BANDAGE," in which he played the starring role. The single was certified Platinum.
Immediately following BANDAGE, AKANISHI delivered 28 solo shows titled "Akanishi Jin Star Live You & Jin", at the historic Nissei Theater in February of 2010. The success of "You & Jin" inspired an overseas performance, leading to "You & Jin U.S.A" in June 2010.
AKANISHI became the first solo artist from the renowned Johnny & Associates Agency to perform in the U.S. His tour, kicked off in 5 cities -- Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco and sold out 2000 to 2500 seat venues, including the Club Nokia in Los Angeles. AKANISHI accomplished this without a U.S. release or support from a record company.
After the success of "You & Jin U.S.A", JIN AKANISHI officially announced he would pursue a solo career, seeking to expand his craft and talents to audiences across the world.
His first Japan solo tour, which began in January 2011, became sensational news when he sold out 170,000 tickets in just one week. Staged and produced by AKANISHI, these shows filled prestigious venues such as the Budokkan and Saitama Super Arena.
AKANISHI's first solo single, released in March 2011, shot straight to No.1 in the National Charts both physical and digital. He subsequently came out with the Live DVD of his tour, on May 4, which again topped the National Video charts (overall and for music charts)
the week of release.
In Dec 2010, AKANISHI signed a global deal with Warner Music Group, with his first single set for worldwide release in the fall of 2011 through Warner Brothers. AKANISHI and produces all of his own songs and is a first class entertainer, known for his dancing as well as for producing and staging his own shows.
Jin has recently been cast in Hollywood film "47 Ronin", starring Keanu Reeves and directed by Carl Rinsch - an epic period film by Universal Pictures based on the true tale of a band of samurai swordsmen who avenged the death of their master in 18th century Japan.
