I'm between schools at the moment. I'm planning on studying library and information sciences for a master's at grad school. My favorite freelance topics are on Theological subjects, and current events. Most people have a great passion to be part of the winning side. We have such confusion as to what it means to win. We grow up believing the one with the most stuff is the winner. That is what we are told by our consumer-driven economy. We have to get more. No wonder we are watching the disappearance in our world of the emphasis on Christian sharing. We may be tempted to ask the question why should I share? If we take a moment and reflect upon the blessings that we have, if we stop for a few hours and count our many blessings count them one by one, then we might become embarrassed by our desire for more. If we take a look at all the stuff we have, all the piles of stuff, and remember that we have much more than 80 percent of the world, then we might not feel so compelled to go out and buy more and more. But how can we be winners if we don't have stuff? The more we talk about being winners, the more we need to ask ourselves what exactly do we mean by winning. So often the whole process of finding out may mean we end up being losers. In all our sporting competitions, to be a winner means that out of thirty teams, twenty-nine have to go home losers so that one can be a winner. The competition to be a winner results in more pain and suffering for most so that one might be crown the winner. The story of Jesus on the cross is the story of victory of God's way in the world, the victory of the message Jesus spoke to his disciples and the victory of the way of life Jesus lived among his disciples. We need to understand that what is really important in life is our capacity to love and be loved, accept the responsibility to seek justice on the behalf of others. And the way you measure success is the impact you make on the lives of others. To be a winner we need only to seek the victory of God's love in the lives of others. There is a struggle between good and evil going on around us, and the victory of Jesus over the forces of evil should be our reality. The story of Jesus on the cross should give us the courage to resist the temptation of materialism. Jesus offers us the gift of God's love and mercy, where we can find ourselves liberated from the bondage of materialism and we can began to share in the Kingdom of God.
