My name is Jesse and I am a proud Cook Islander traveling back and forth between Australia, New Zealand and the Cook Islands since 2005. My reason for traveling around the Cook Islands is mostly because I grew up in Rarotonga but have never been to the other 14 outer islands until March 2009 when I flew with Air Rarotonga to Aitutaki. It was a way of getting to know/see what the outer islands were like, how the locals lived and what they did for work, what the education system was like, and basically wanted to explore what the outer islands had to offer. And it has been an enjoyable journey. Besides the Cook Islands I have also traveled to Tahiti and Hawaii in October 2011.

The name 'Cook Islands' was given in honour of Captain James Cook, by Russian Admiral and Explorer Adam Johann von Krusenstern.

Each island presents it's own unique characteristics and beauty.

The Southern Island Groups are:

Rarotonga - Tumutevarovaro, is the capital of the Cook Islands; Mangaia - Au'au Enua, is the second largest island; Aitutaki - Araura Enua;
( These next 3 islands are known by their combined name Nga Pu Toru - Atiu - Enua Manu, Land of the birds; Mauke - Akatokamanava, Garden of the islands; Mitiaro - Nukuroa, Face of the ocean );
Manuae is a sanctuary; Takutea is a sanctuary; and Palmerston is a settlement for the William Marsters family

The Northern Island Groups are:

Pukapuka - Island of beautiful girls; Manihiki - Island of Pearls; Rakahanga - The undiscovered island; Penrhyn - Tongareva; Suwarrow - Treasure Island, A conservation reserve; and Nassau - Garden of Eden

The Cook Islands is definitely a place to unwind, forget about all the stress of the modern world, and just relax under the peaceful tropical sun.
