Jason Julien was a child who survived through many adversities. A Jamaican migrant, his mother was subjected to many years of manual labour; despite her interest in furthering her education. Until recently, Jason grew up without a father figure playing an active role in his life. In times of hardship and sorrow, Jason's source of strength was his mother. Jason's mother comforted him in the toughest of times, and played a pivotal role in his discovery. At a young age, Jason was inspired by a woman who sang "Happy Birthday" at a party. From that moment on, he would sing wherever and whenever he had the chance. However, it was not until his mother overheard him singing loudly in the shower; that she realized his true potential. In March of 2006 Jason met a Toronto-based rapper by the name of Chris Harris. Chris, who was also earning his Masters in social work, had high hopes for Jason's musical talent. Chris then decided to bring Jason and a couple of youths from the area to a professional studio in downtown Toronto called "The Black Light Studio". Redefining himself as an R&B/Soul singer and songwriter, Jason wrote a song entitled "dreams". His first song was a reflection of his life growing up in a minority-based neighbourhood and the stigmas he had witnessed first hand. In early September of 2006, Jason joined a non-profitable organization called B2DS (Beat to da Streets), which was located in East York. As a member of B2DS, Jason was given the opportunity to partake in vocal lessons, performances, and his first photo-shoot. As a result of being a member for many years, Jason has admirable performing skills and has been made a mentor in B2DS. In the summer of the following year, Jason took part in a dub poetry play entitled "P.N Numero 1" directed by Di'b Young. Jason played the role of Malcolm, the confused teenager that thought of murdering a drug dealer over money disputes. Jason delivered the performance of a life time and surprised his mother, who was unaware of his acting skills. Jason has now performed at many prestigious venues such as The Trane Studio, The Cathedral, El Mocombo, Mc Master University, Ryerson University and, The Revival.
