About Me:
whether In the realms of Jazz or the idioms of Rock and R&B whether a solid pulse in the background is needed, or you're looking for the audience-enticing showmanship of a funkatier center stage - Jackson wears his varied hats in style.
Also an experienced bassist and occasional Hammond player Jackson understands the melodic and harmonic structures his grooves are supporting and prides himself in propping up his fellow musician's expressions to levels not ordinarily reached save for a more than solid rhythmic foundation to build upon.
From the grind of the theme park and cruise boat circuit to Big Bands and the sensibility of a female vocalist's acoustic guitar accompanied bossa nova - Jackson's experience enables him to be a chameleon on the kit that can both spice up, or simply substantiate the musical statements of the musician's in his brushes' care.
From Rasta dreads to cowboy hats Jackson's makes the kind of musical fashion statement you want your dancers dancing to.
After two whole summers of working in the hot summer sun cutting grass for a local daycare center. Jay saved up enough money to buy his first drum set going in to his freshmen year at Princeton High School in Cincinnati, OH. There he played the drums in the jazz band, all the school musicals, the gospel choir, and the show choir. He also sat first chair in the French Horn section of the top band, was a drum Major, and helped with the drum line.
Jay's first professional experience came his junior year in high school when he was asked to play for a local country artist named Don Freeman. "The show was amazing! just watching the crew set up and being able to play with really great musicians was the best part. Before that gig I would have never called myself a Country Drummer. I never played that type of music, but it did open my ears and allowed me to step out of myself and play something different". From there the list grow to different Jazz, R&B, Rock, and Gospel groups. Also being involved in city wide and state wide productions and taking on the musical director roll in most of the situations he found himself in.
Now in his sophomore year as a jazz studies major at Bowling Green State University Jay continues to grow musically. Although his work load for school is substantially large he still gigs regularly with The Argonauts ( a Ska band) and many other jazz and gospel groups. In 2007 Jay will be playing over 600 show at the Nationally known theme park Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio and in the future is looking forward to moving to the Los Angeles area and taking up a full time career in music.
