About Me:
Jake is my Purebred German Shepherd dog, who I train using positive reinforcement and clicker training. I do not use any aversive training methods, such as choke chains, prong collars or shock collars, physical punishment and intimidation methods.
What is Clicker Training?
Clicker Training is a hands-off way of training with a dog (or any other animal) that doesn't involve any punitive punishments, domination or force. Clicker training is mentally stimulating and encourages the dog to think on its own and become operant. The dog realizes that its behaviour makes good things happen.
Clicker training says, "If you do this (a behavior), something good will happen (positive reinforcement). This revolutionary method is so gentle, effective and fun for both the dog and person. Clicker training is so gentle, puppies as young as four weeks old can begin learning!
Clicker training creates strong reliable behaviours, and is a great way of modifying behaviour- solving shyness, reactivity and aggression. It is also a ethical way to bond with your companion animal as you train the animal to want to do what you want them to do, rather than the animal to do what you want.
Positive Reinforcement means, adding something the animal will work for to strengthen (increase the frequency of) a behaviour.
For example, giving the dog a treat for sitting in order to increase the probability that the dog will sit again.
Training your dog using positive reinforcement, is fast, effective, and enjoyable for both you and your dog.
On May 9th, 2010 Jake received his Novice Trick Dog Title (NTD).
In 2010 . Aug. 2, 2010 Jake receives his Intermediate (ITD) and Advanced (ATD) Trick Dog Title.
