About this user

I am a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy and an alumni of the Sabre Drill Team. The Sabre Drill Team was formed in 1961 at the Academy by a small group of cadets that wished to hold themselves to a higher standard and represent the Air Force Academy in an extremely unique way, the performance of sabre manual. They helped to set up what sabre manual is at the Academy. In order to join this team you have to join as a freshman. Through rigourous practice and training, the freshmen became a team with bonds of friendship and teamwork far deeper than any formed during their Basic Cadet Training. They would then assume leadership responsibilities as they became upperclassmen. This team had at least 10 members per class for a team size of at least 40 people. They became one of the most prominent teams at the Academy doing both exhibition and competition performances. They earned many awards and performed at such events as the Miss America Beauty Pagent. In 2003, this unique team was forced to merge with the Cadet Honor Guard. Due to differences in tradition, the Cadet Honor Guard made decisions that ended in the USAFA Sabre Drill Team nearly disappearing for good. However, myself and my best friend, the last 2 original Sabre Drill Team members, were given permission to refound this unique group at the Academy. We were able to restart the team with a total of 6 cadets. This year, the team has finally grown to 12 cadets. In the future, it is our hope that through generating interest in our team and knowledge of what we do throughout the Nation, to represent the Air Force Academy as a hard working military school and to help bring the Team back to its former status as one of the most visible Teams at the Air Force Academy.
