@ryuinz That is what I have been saying the whole time. Illegal check and called as such, whether it is boarding or elbowing is a non-issue. Deserving of a minor penalty and that is the end of it in my opinion.

Don't think the contact to the head is much of an issue, it was only minimal and it was a full body check. However, it should have been charging as Ovechkin left his feet. That said I'd be disappointed to see a suspension resulting from this, a 2 minute minor would have been appropriate.

A dirty hit and deserving of a suspension but despite all the comments I don't think the Bruins commentators were being unreasonable at all. They weren't suggesting that what Ference did was right or that it wasn't worth a major penalty. Jack Edwards in a biased idiot but there wasn't much wrong ...

Great stuff, that 2005 team was incredible. I had forgotten how good they were but looking at the team list it is amazing that a large part that team wouldn't look out of place as the Olympic team (goalies being the only glaring weak point).

@smc1300 I know what you meant to say, its just completely pointless. Its very clear from the context that he was referring to Canada as a "small" by population, not that he was labouring under the delusion that Canada was some tiny city-state.

@zxcv1234vcxz You are also forgetting that Canada already had a bad reputation in this tournament for poor sportsmanship and roughhousing. Only a few days before they had been involved in a big pre-game fight with the Americans as well as stuff like Fleury "shooting" the Russian bench after a goa...

Not the point of the video but does anyone else think Sturm took a dive? Suter gets his stick in his hands which is a clear penalty but then Sturm does a dramatic pirouette and falls to the ice.

Unbelievably dumb penalty from Lindros, was no reason for it but Hasek should have gone for diving too.

It seems like a very unusual (in fact almost unheard of thing for referees to do, particularly while the series is still on). I don't remember it happening and I can't find anything on it anywhere, it just seems doubtful ...

@britamarshall Absolutely. I'm normally a great supporter of referees and I think they get unfairly criticised the vast majority of the time, however, that was a rubbish call no matter how you look at it and Burrows had every right to feel upset over that penalty. Not so sure about the other call...
