@JPStrikesBack P51 left the war with the reputation and not the P38. Australian Air Power net exposes the details. Search for "Gabelschwanz Teufel" and "Air Power Australia" and you'll find a lot more.

If it were thermite, the buildings would have fallen MUCH faster. The planes crashed into the buildings and the fuel caught on fire and it burned and burned. But thermite burns HOT AND FAST.

The P38 had a much faster rate of climb than the Ta-152, and a higher ceiling than any of the other planes in your list. The goal is to attack from above and behind the enemy, I think the P38 should be rated higher. The P38 has 50% faster climb rate then either the Ta152 or the P51. It may not ...

@Riyun72 I did a Google search for "P51 images." Most are unpainted, but some are. I kind of thing that the images you see of the unpainted planes simply make better pictures, so the people who print them prefer them to the more drably painted planes.
