As always, the best versions of ZC to run it are 1.90 (very old, uses DOS), 1.92 b 183 (mostly stable version, but will crash the game if you open the map twice in one session), or 1.92 b 184 (fixes map glitch, only runs in fullscreen).
For anyone trying to get 1.92 (or any version of ZC, really) to run on Windows 7, but is encountering errors, here's a quick fix. Right-click the program (zelda-w.exe) and go to properties. Under the Compatibility tab, tell it to run the program in compatibility mode with Windows XP service pack 3. Also, check the box for "Disable desktop composition". If doing this doesn't help, you can also try moving the program window to the edge of the computer screen so the very side of it is cut off. For some reason, I've had that be the solution for a few things.
