In 2001, Cheryl Bookout proposed a collaborative project between the Pomona Arts Colony, artist Judy Chicago and her photographer husband, Donald Woodman. For over two years, Ms. Bookout worked as the Project Coordinator for this effort, alongside Judy Chicago and Donald Woodman, to create "Envisioning the Future," an intensive artistic collective that brought over 80 artists to the area to work, present, and perform images with the common theme of "the future." This complex undertaking came to a successful conclusion in March 2004.In January 2006, Ms. Bookout was the curatorial consultant for "Multiple Vantage Points: Southern California Women Artists, 1980 2006," exhibited at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery Barnsdall Park and sponsored by the Southern California Womens Caucus for Art and the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
In January, 2010, Ms. Bookout served as the guest curator for the Milford Zornes inagural retrospective at the Chaffey Community Arts Associatoin Museum in Rancho Cucamonga.
Ms. Bookout is also an independent curator with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, Laguna Beach Art Museum and Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
